Council for Older Adults to Host Monthly Caregiver Workshops

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Date: April 1, 2008

The Council for Older Adults announced today that it will begin hosting monthly workshops for Delaware County residents involved in caring for older loved ones.  The new Caregiver Workshops will begin this month and are free of charge to county residents.

“We are excited about the Caregiver Workshops because we know they will fulfill a real need in our community,” said Fara Waugh, LISW, Associate Director of Client Services.  “Caregivers face special challenges, and they can benefit from the opportunity to talk with others about their experiences, as well as to learn about resources available within the community to help them handle their caregiving responsibilities.”  The monthly workshops will include presentations by various members of the caregiving community on topics of interest such as legal services, hospice care, and stress management through recreation.

The following Caregiver Workshops are scheduled for Spring 2008:

Monday, April 28 from 6-8 p.m. – Dementia and Caregiving
Tuesday, May 27 from 6-8 p.m. – Legal Services
Tuesday, June 24 from 6-8 p.m. – Fun in the Sun: How to Create Your Own Sunshine

Workshops will be held at the Center for Older Adults, 800 Cheshire Road, Delaware, and light refreshments will be served.

The Council for Older Adults is a local organization which strives to serve the older population of our county, making it possible for older individuals to remain independent while living in their own homes. The Council’s services are funded by the local Senior Services Levy.
