Council for Older Adults Honors Local Volunteers
The Council for Older Adults will hold its annual Volunteer Recognition Day Luncheon on April 18th at the new Elks Lodge, 1502 W. William St. in Delaware. Celebrated in conjunction with National Volunteer Week - April 15th through the 23rd, this event gives us a formal opportunity to recognize and thank our many volunteers for their support. All attending Council volunteers will be given special gifts and certificates of appreciation for their volunteer service during 2006.
This year’s Luncheon will feature the theme “Baseball - Our Volunteers hit a Home Run” and will include a costume judging contest and music entertainment. There will be a presentation on The History of Baseball by Tracy Martin of the Ohio Historical Society Baseball team - the Muffins. The buffet style luncheon will begin at 1:30 p.m. and will be followed by the awards ceremony which will recognize several of our volunteers who have made exceptional contributions to our organization.
Our group of nearly 500 dedicated volunteers, ranging from 6 to 90 years old, includes our volunteer Board of Directors and others that may work weekly delivering meals, monthly to help with various tasks in and out of our office, or one day a year helping with our annual Summer Festival.
The Council for Older Adults has a variety of volunteer positions available, including drivers who deliver meals for the Council’s Delaware County Senior Nutrition Program and volunteers to work at the Summer Festival. For more information on volunteer positions, call the Council office at 740-363-6677.
The Council for Older Adults of Delaware County is a non-profit local organization responsible for planning, coordinating and developing local services for older adults, their families and caregivers in Delaware County. The Council is the home of SENIOR CHOICES, the local one stop center for information, assistance and in-home services. The Senior Choices program is supported, in part, through the local senior services levy.
