The
16th
annual Summer Festival will take place on Friday,
June 20, 2008 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m, at the Delaware
County Fairgrounds. In recent years, this community event has attracted more than 3,000 people to join
in on a day of outstanding fun, delicious food, exposure
to new products and services and great entertainment for the whole family.
Summer Festival 2008 events include the Pig
and Corn Roast, the Senior Expo, the Health
and Wellness Fair, the Arts and Crafts Show
and Sale and the Classic Car Show.
The Council’s Summer Festival started out as a picnic
in 1993 as an appreciation to local seniors for their support of our
organization. Attendance at the pig roast doubled in our second year
to 500 individuals and doubled again to 1,000 in the third year. By
1997 the event had become an important fund-raiser and had grown to
the point that it was moved to the Delaware County Fairgrounds. In 1998
the decision was made to further develop this event and it was expanded
to include a Senior Expo and a Health & Wellness Fair. In 2000, the event
was formally renamed the Summer Festival, the Classic Car Show was added,
as well as additional events and entertainment for the whole family.
