Child Sexual Abuse Training

Purpose:

To inform advocates/service providers about Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) & how it may be handled within the criminal, domestic, and other civil courts.  This training will increase the competency of advocates/service providers who work with those affected by CSA. 

 

Learning objectives:

By the conclusion of this workshop, participants will:

  • Increase their knowledge of participants about different court systems and how Child Sexual Abuse may be handled in each  
  • Identify/explain the roles of different people involved in the civil court process 
  • Identify possible problems with cases and come up with strategies to address those issues

Presenter Bio:

Micaela Deming, Esq. is a practicing attorney focusing on the civil legal needs of survivors of domestic and sexual violence and stalking.  She received her J.D. from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law as a Moritz Merit Scholar and a B.A. with honors from Bucknell University.  She began working with survivors of sexual assault in 2005 with the Susquehanna Valley Women in Transition and continues to volunteer as an advocate for survivors of all types on interpersonal violence with the Sexual Assault Response Network of Central Ohio.  Ms. Deming has also worked with V-Day OSU, the Ohio Hispanic Coalition's Domestic Violence program, Columbus City Prosecutor's Office Domestic Violence Unit, and the Ohio Domestic Violence Network.

Purpose:

This workshop will present information on the Board process of investigation and give participants an opportunity to discuss issues and ethical dilemmas that Social Workers face every day.  It is also an in-depth look at the Code of Professional Conduct, what not to do, and the consequences licensees can face if they violate the rules that govern the profession. 

 

Learning objectives:

By the conclusion of this workshop, participants will:

  • Receive updated information regarding changes to the rules and ethical code that governs the practice of the professions.
  • Receive information regarding the role of the Board and conducting investigation into alleged violations.
  • Review and discuss actual  cases that resulted in formal discipline by the Board. 

Presenter Bio:

Tammy Tingle has been employed for 23 years as an Investigator with the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage & Family Therapist Board.  She is a Nationally Certified Investigator and has training in Advanced Investigative Analysis, including behavioral analysis and investigative interviewing. Ms. Tingle is currently responsible for conducting investigations of complaints filed with the Board regarding the practice of counseling, social work, and marriage and family therapy.  She also conducts presentations for ethics training to national associations, educational institutions and private agencies.  Ms. Tingle is a member of the Ohio Investigator Association.

 


Caregiver Workshops

The Council for Older Adults provides monthly opportunities for caregivers to learn, grow, and gather support. Presentations are provided by various members of our caregiving community and focus on a host of topics, ranging from self-care/recreational activities to informative discussions on various services available within our local community.
