Council for Older Adults announces free tax assistance program for adults over 60

    

Your local AARP chapter and Council for Older Adults are again joining forces to make a free tax assistance program available to older adults in Delaware County.  The tax assistance program will continue through April 14^th and is made possible through the efforts of local AARP volunteers who have successfully completed a rigorous training program. This tax assistance service is designed to help older persons understand the various tax forms and to take advantage of the special provisions in the tax laws for retirement income. All volunteer counselors have been specifically trained to prepare returns for older persons in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service. Local resident Richard Hauenstein is again leading the volunteer effort.

Those using this free service are encouraged to bring last year’s tax return as well as all tax related materials to the appointment.

If you have not filed tax returns in recent years and you paid Federal Excise Tax on long distance telephone service after Feb. 28, 2006 and before Aug. 1, 2006, you are entitled to a refund. The AARP volunteers can assist you with this special filing of form 1040EZ-T.

This year, the tax assistance program will be offered at these locations in Central Ohio and is available by appointment only:

Delaware Library, 84 E. Winter St., Delaware
Mondays, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Feb. 2 through Apr. 13 

Sunbury Community Library, 44 Burrer Dr.,  Sunbury
Tuesdays, 11 – 3 p.m. Feb. 6 through Apr. 10
