Summer Festival 2011

A Good Time Had by all at the 19th Annual Summer Festival
Despite a deluge the evening before and dire predictions of more precipitation the day of the Summer Festival, the clouds parted and the sun came out just in time for the crowds to enjoy the 19th annual Summer Festival. Held for the second year in a row at the Center for Older Adults on June 11, the Festival, presented by Haller Wealth Management Group, provided a lively backdrop for education, outreach and health screenings, along with great food and entertainment and family fun for all ages.
Over the years, the Summer Festival has evolved into a community-wide event for the whole family. Throughout the Festival’s history, each year has brought the addition of new events and activities. For the older generation, the Health and Wellness Fair offered free health screenings for seniors. The Business Expo attracted more than 50 exhibitors and was a popular destination for seniors and their families. At the annual Pig & Corn Roast, delicious fare was served by a large contingent of volunteers, and Festival-goers enjoyed a variety of freshly prepared seasonal foods such as corn on the cob, potato salad and pasta salad.
All-day entertainment was provided by popular local musicians, In Full Swing, Erica Blinn, Thrown to the Curb, Grassahol and the headliner, Delyn Christian and the Fret Shop Band. Other entertainment included 3C Highway sharing their unique musical sounds on the indoor stage, the talents of magician Dr. Eldoonie, as well as a bigger and better than ever children’s play area, KidzZone, which featured a bounce house, obstacle course and the perennial favorite, the children’s train ride. This event simply would not happen without the huge outpouring of support from this community,” said Bob Horrocks, executive director of the Council for Older Adults.
